Services of general economic interest (SGEI) are considered a shared value of the EU and its Member States (Art. 16 EC). This contribution assesses whether and to which extent this value is protected in the external trade relations of the EC. It analyses the scope of the common commercial policy and the impact of WTO law on these services.
