This project examines the changing role of the state regarding the healthcare system of the OECD world since the 1970s. The first two project phases focused primarily on the description and explanation of transformation processes. The state transformation observed, aimed at overcoming system-specific deficits and enhancing the performance of the healthcare system. The question now arises whether this has really taken place. Therefore the third research phase investigates the consequences of state transformation. How does state transformation affect the outcomes of the healthcare system? What are the reactions of relevant stakeholders affected by state transformation? The answer to the first question shall provide information for the evaluation of state transformations concerning the allocation of the normative good social welfare. The answer to the second question is supposed to indicate future reform trends.
